END OF BBC WORLD SERVICE FM BROADCASTS IN BULGARIA (01/09/2008)
Steve Williams, the British Ambassador to Bulgaria, has made the following statement about the ending of BBC World Service on 91.0 FM:
"I am sorry that the BBC World Service will stop broadcasting in Bulgaria on FM radio tomorrow. Like other regular listeners, I will miss the high quality, impartial and comprehensive broadcasts.
I want to express my sincere appreciation for the contribution that the BBC World Service has made to Bulgaria. The World Service was set up in the 1930s to offer balanced and high-quality journalism to a global audience. For 68 years it has provided this service in Bulgaria, winning the trust and respect of its audience by offering an impartial window to the outside world.
I would like to pay tribute to all the dedicated and gifted journalists who have worked at the Bulgarian Service of the BBC World Service over the years."
