Our Embassy in Sofia

The British Embassy represents the United Kingdom in Bulgaria. We are responsible for working with the Bulgarian government on bilateral and multi-lateral topics, protecting British citizens abroad and promoting British commercial and other interests. The Embassy has around 40 staff, two thirds of whom are Bulgarian.

The British Ambassador, Steve Williams, is the official representative of the United Kingdom in Bulgaria. He is in overall charge of the Embassy.

The Consular and Visa Section provides services for British citizens in Bulgaria and issues visas for 3rd country nationals in Bulgaria who wish to visit Britain.

The Commercial Section handles trade and investment issues, including helping British companies do business in Bulgaria, and Bulgarian companies do business in Britain.

SOCA (Serious Organised Crime Agency) Section is responsible for the co-operation with the Bulgarian authorities on tackling the threats from serious and organised crime. For more information about SOCA, please, visit the agency's main site www.soca.gov.uk.

The Strategic Policy Team lobbies the the Bulgarian Government  on bilateral and multi-lateral topics, provides information about Britain to the government, the press and the public, and works towards delivering both the Embassy's objectives and the FCO's policy goals.

The Management staff are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Embassy.

The Embassy works closely with British Council Bulgaria on educational and cultural issues.
