Residence

HMA's Residence

Location
The Residence is on Vassil Levski Boulevard, one of the main thoroughfares in central Sofia. It is at the end of the boulevard furthest from the centre, only three or four hundred yards from the Palace of Culture.

Size of grounds
The Residence stands in its own grounds of about 0.9 of an acre. The land was given to the British Government by Tsar Ferdinand and is designated on the city plan as a "green lung". This means that there are very strict restrictions on building on it, or even cutting down trees.

General description
The house is a good example of Edwardian design, with well-proportioned, spacious rooms, all of them with good natural light. The general impression is of a large comfortable English house. There is a swimming pool in the Residence garden. The garden itself is attractive, with mature trees, lawn, shrubs and flowerbeds.

Furniture
Much of the Residence furniture was supplied in 1912 when the house was built. Some of it is antique and some reproduction 18th century style. Furnishing materials are supplied from Britain. The pictures, which are hung in the public rooms, are on loan from the Government Art Collection.
