Environmental Policy

Resource depletion, environmental degradation and climate change present major challenges to the world community. Promoting a low carbon, high growth economy is a strategic objective of the British government. All staff at the British Embassy in Sofia are therefore committed to address these challenges in our policies and our practices, within our available resources. We will seek to achieve environmental excellence in our day-to-day operations and through that to become an example of good practice for other organisations in Bulgaria and other British missions around the world.

Please, see the Embassy's Environmental policy.

Environmental statement

To better understand and control our impact on the environment, the British Embassy's Green Team, have introduced an Environmental Management System into the Embassy.  Working with consultants from Denkstatt Bulgaria, we have designed an Environmental Policy for the Embassy and a practical programme of measures to help make us more environmentally freindly and to reduce our carbon footprint.

In October 2009, we published our second environmental statement on the progress that the Embassy is making.  This statement summarises the initiatives undertaken last financial year to reduce our carbon footprint, raise awareness about climate change, its implications and the opportunities it brings, as well as to encourage the Bulgarian government to commit to ambitious EU climate change and energy agenda.

Here is the full text of our second Environmental report.
