Regional trip to Dve Mogili and Ruse (07/10/2009)
Stuart Peters, Head of the Embassy's Strategic Policy Team, and two colleagues visited Ruse for meetings with the local municipality and discussions with colleagues from Bucharest. During their visit the team held talks on child care reform, the local economy, UK/Bulgarian relations and how to work more closely with the British Embassy in Bucharest.
They also met two amazing people whom they would like to thank and highlight: David Bisset, a UK national who lives in Ruse with his wife, and Dr Mechkkunova a local psychiatrist. David Bisset has set up an NGO in Ruse called Equilibrium, which provides social services to the municipality and care fore disabled children. Dr Mechkkunova has established a local community health clinic in Ruse, which provides mental health care to hundreds of f
amilies. They are both excellent examples of community action and both very nice and hospitable people.
