We can register deaths of British citizens in Bulgaria in the Consular Section, British Embassy, Sofia and issue certified copies in UK format. It could take 3 to 5 days to register a death and obtain a certified copy.

Documentary evidence to be produced:

• Original local civil death certificate
• Hospital notification may be also acceptable, but must be referred to Nationality & Consular Registration Section

However, you do not need to register a death with the British Embassy, Sofia. An original Bulgarian civil death certificate would be accepted in UK if it is translated and legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consular Section (address: Sofia 1040, 2 Alfred Nobel Street).
